Sean Ludwig: Artist's Statement
With the rise of ignorance, and the fall
of intelligence and common sense, comes
an age of uninformed guesswork and
uncertainty. Fear is the natural
response to scare tactics on the news,
and failure is the mentality engrained
into this nation’s youth and working
class. Artists can be either oblivious
to such a trend, or take it as an
opportunity to snap their viewers out of
the illusion of hopelessness. This marks
a time for the artist to take on the
opposite roll of “the boy who cried
wolf”; it is a time to deny popular
opinion, the media, and the government
the ability to blindfold the majority of
the public from the real problems and
issues that need to be resolved. Artists
must assume the character of the
teacher, the healer, and the thinker to
avoid being swallowed by mass hysteria.
